NTU is a research-oriented university. Half of its 33,000 students are graduate students. It offers a stimulating, intellectually rigorous environment in which to develop innovative research with strong impact. NTU has the highest research budget, broadest industry partnerships and largest number of technological transfers in Taiwan. The University is ranked 38th worldwide for academic reputation (QS World University Rankings 2013) and 3rd in Asia-Pacific for engineering, technology and computer science (ARWU 2013). Its faculty is ranked among the top 1% in the world by number of highly cited papers in 19 out of 22 areas of the ESI (Essential Science Indicators) database. In 2010, over 300 patent applications based on faculty research were filed. NTU supports a global strategy that values research excellence, sustained mobility and the creation of quality opportunities, at home and overseas.
